There is a lot of excitement around the Maruti Suzuki Jimny from Maruti in India. The 3-door Jimny has been manufactured by Maruti Suzuki in India for export markets but was not launched in this country. Our recent sightings of several test mules of the upcoming SUV show that Maruti is working on a 5-door version of the Maruti Suzuki Jimny for the Indian market. Indian consumers are most likely to see the SUV next year. At the upcoming Auto Expo next year, we might see a glimpse of this SUV. Jimny’s 5-door version will likely be powered by the same older K15B engine as its 3-door counterpart.

Several Maruti models in India used the K15B petrol engine. These engines were recently replaced by the much more advanced K15 DualJet engines in almost all models. Several reports suggested that Maruti may use the same K15C engine on the upcoming 5-door Jimny. However, it appears that the manufacturer had another plan in mind. In addition to its 1,462cc, four-cylinder, naturally aspirated petrol engine, the upcoming 5-door Jimny will have 130Nm of peak torque and 102PS. An automatic transmission will be available with this engine as well as a 5-speed manual transmission.

That’s right, you read it correctly. K15C series engines are the only ones equipped with the new 6-speed automatic transmission. A Suzuki AllGrip Pro 4WD system would be offered on the Jimny 5-door since it is an off-road SUV. AllGrip will be offered in both manual and automatic versions. If compared with competitors, the K15B engine in the Jimny would offer mild hybrid capabilities, which would help increase the SUV’s overall fuel efficiency. There is currently only one petrol engine in India, the K15B, and it is equipped with the Maruti Ciaz. It is still the same engine that is used in many Suzuki models outside of India, including the Ertiga.

A low-ratio transfer case is part of the AllGrip 4WD system available on the Maruti Suzuki Jimny 5-door SUV. Unlike the AllGrip feature seen on the recently launched Grand Vitara, this is more suited for off-roading. The Jimny should be the manufacturer’s only 4 x 4 vehicle in India when it launches. There will be some competition in the segment between Jimny and Mahindra Thar. The Mahindra company is also working on a five-door version of the popular Thar SUV, which is currently in the works.

It is unlikely that Maruti Suzuki will make many changes to its design. A spare wheel will be mounted on the tailgate as well as round headlamps, alloy wheels, and a boxy design. There would be no difference in the interior appearance of the 5-door Jimny as there would be in the 3-door version. An audio control wheel and cruise control buttons would be added to the sporty-looking steering wheel. A touchscreen infotainment system will be included in the car, as we see in other Maruti models. The vehicle will support Apple CarPlay as well as Android Auto. A 360-degree camera is likely to be included in the car’s higher-end variants, and the car will also have automatic climate control.
